Building with Nature Announces New Ownership

Building with Nature is excited to announce that as of May 2024, it has joined forces with Sintali Ltd in a strategic move to scale and grow its impact across the United Kingdom, as well as expand internationally. Sintali is a highly experienced UK-based leader in the development of sustainability standards and environmental verification. This ownership change provides a strong and resilient foundation for the Building with Nature Standards Framework to evolve, adapting to the changing needs of its users, and the evolving demands of both UK and international legislation, policy and good industry practice.

“Sintali’s expertise in green building standards and Building with Nature’s expertise in green infrastructure standards seamlessly align and complement one another,” says Gemma Jerome, Director of Building with Nature. “With our new home at Sintali, Building with Nature now has a strong platform to enable the next chapter in the Standard’s growth and continue our mission of making better places for people and wildlife”.

Since its incorporation in 2018, Building with Nature has been owned by the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust (GWT), and operated under Build with Nature Limited as a wholly owned trading subsidiary of GWT. Going forwards all Building with Nature products and services will be owned and operated by Sintali Ltd. Sintali is a global certification partner to the World Bank and works in over 80 countries to advance its mission of ensuring all buildings on the planet are green. This strategic alignment will enable Building with Nature to continue to execute the vital work it is doing to promote the environmental protection of the UK’s communities and spaces, whilst also enabling the standard to broaden its reach and establish a global presence.

“We’re thrilled to see Building with Nature find such a fantastic home at Sintali, a move that will ensure it can meet ever increasing demand for guidance when it comes to delivering quality green infrastructure,” said Andrew McLaughlin, CEO of Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust. “As we work to deliver nature’s recovery and tackle the climate crisis across the UK, providing developers with best-practice standards that bring green infrastructure to the mainstream is vital. As part of Sintali, we know that Building with Nature will continue to grow, raising the bar for the industry and ensuring high quality developments with nature at their heart for people across the UK.”

The role the built environment can play in nature recovery is a growing agenda for industry and policy makers alike. By bringing together expertise and experience in decarbonisation and green infrastructure, Sintali and Building with Nature naturally complement each other and are better positioned to support industry and policy makers to catalyse change towards a sustainable future.

“We are very excited to welcome the Building with Nature team to Sintali,” says Eleni Polychroniadou, CEO of Sintali. “Building with Nature closely aligns with Sintali’s values, which originate from a passion and care for planet and people. We are incredibly excited to bring in such leading expertise into the business and collaborate to continue to meet our shared vision of promoting and verifying a greener built environment on a global scale."
